Duties Print E-mail

Each day there are three duties that need to be taken on by a duty for the entirety of the day.

The three duties are…

  • MEALS (you must set out every thing for each meal. Things such as cutlery, plates, bowls, etc. you must then serve the meals and then when everyone has eaten, clean up and do the dishes.)
  • WET AREAS (you must clean the bathroom)
  • COMMON AREAS (you must clean all the tables and vacuum all the floors in the common areas)

Duty groups consist of one or more school group who will do the duty for that day. There is a roster showing who is to complete which duty and when. My least favourite duty would definitely have to be the meals. If it is a day with a lot of dirty dishes (basically every day since we are living with so many others) then you have to spend the majority of your spare time in the kitchen washing up and completing other cleaning tasks. If I had to choose a favourite duty I think it would be common areas. If the whole group pitches in and helps then it takes barely any time at all. It is also a much cleaner job than the others. On wet areas, you have to clean all the toilets, benches, mirrors, showers and floors. Though it can be completed quickly if you have a lot of helpers, it is definitely not pleasant.

In conclusion, duties are obviously not the best part of the alpine school, but are definitely something that is needed on a day to day basis. If you work together as a team, then the job will be completed with a lot less effort and time wastage. Team work is an essential part of being at the alpine school which, if mastered in the beginning, will help you immensely.
