Steve CurtainI have a strong and deep connection to the Australian Alps developed through many outdoor trips, photojournalism, filming and education. Its stark brilliant winters, snowmelt-fed rivers in spring or the breathless vistas from a high-point in summer are the experiences that inspire me and in turn inspire me to share with young people. The Alpine School offers this as well time for students to reflect and engage in a community to develop a greater, deeper sense of themselves.

Originally I studied a Bachelor of Education in Environmental Science but recently completed a certificate IV in Training and Assessment and in Outdoor Recreation in the Blue Mountains near Sydney. Surfing, canyoning and telemark skiing as well as being with great people, music, food and coffee are what 'float my boat'.

Concurrently, I have been developing my small video production business that has forged a strong connection with the natural environment, human nature and education all in one. These projects all aim to communicate the fragility, natural beauty of the planet and a sense of how humans fit in the grand scheme of things. Filming wildlife in Antarctica was a recent highlight.

My vocation both in and out of the Alpine School classroom is fun and inspiring. It's a thrill to introduce young students to the natural environment, to life skills and to a mindset of dreaming large, with care, laughter, passion and possibility. In the end I hope that students in turn continue to share and create the 'good stuff' that exists both within us, between us, and with the natural landscape itself.
