I wanted to be involved in the education of young adults especially in the areas of personal development, team work, community involvement, taking on challenge, accepting risk and leadership. My first Degree was Physical Education and Environmental Science and I was able to specialise in recreation pursuits. During my first years of teaching I was involved in many school camps and the learning and teaching that went on tended to accelerate the above areas in young adults. From this I decided to up skill in Outdoor Education and decided, after researching courses, to do this in the United Kingdom(Plas-y Brenin and Dunfirmline College). Later I completed the Graduate Diploma in Outdoor Education at Bendigo. Prior to accepting a position at the Alpine School I worked at Hamilton Technical School, Swan Hill Technical School, Wodonga High School and Bogong Outdoor Education Centre. The teaching and learning opportunities at the Alpine School are allowing me to work specifically with year 9 students in the areas of Leadership and Enterprise. These year 9 students, during one nine-week residential term, produce some outstanding outcomes brought about through an engaging curriculum that involves participation, negotiation and empowerment. This experience has enabled me to work in an area that I have not been able to do anywhere else and finally have come close to achieving the goals I initially set for my career in education.
