Anthony Pike

Anthony PikeIt'd be fair to say that I feel incredibly lucky to be part of the team here at the Alpine School. I'm relatively new to the teaching game, having completed my Post-graduate Diploma of Education at LaTrobe University Wodonga in 2004, and to have been given the opportunity to work here after such a short time within the educational system is an honour.

My undergraduate degree is in Industrial Design and I've also completed a Post-graduate Diploma in Graphic Design, both of which I am steadily introducing into my teaching practise here. I have previously been a Primary teacher, a Secondary Art and Visual Communications teacher, and a wide host of other things as well. I have poured beer and concrete, picked grapes, tobacco and colour schemes, illustrated books, mopped floors, answered calls, managed stores and painted walls. I've travelled and read extensively, and have lived in 19 houses and 3 countries, all of which helped me to find my way to teaching.

The Alpine School embodies most, if not all, of my educational ideals; it's challenging, it's fun, it's experiential and inspiring. Here today's young adults are given both the time and opportunity to closely examine what drives them, what their ideals are, what their next steps into the larger world around them might be and how those steps will affect the people around them. The fact that I am allowed to be a part of this process and hopefully lend my experience to theirs is both uplifting and humbling.

My love of the outdoors and particularly alpine areas only compounds my sense of excitement at my ongoing position here at the Alpine School and I look forward to expanding my knowledge along with that of the students in my care.

School For Student Leadership

School for Student Leadership is a Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET) initiative offering a unique residential education experience for year nine students. The curriculum focuses on personal development and team learning projects sourced from students' home regions. There are four campuses in iconic locations across Victoria. The Alpine School Campus is located at Dinner Plain in the Victorian Alps. Snowy River Campus is near the mouth of the Snowy River at Marlo in east Gippsland. The third site is adjacent to Mount Noorat near Camperdown in Victoria’s Western District, and is called Gnurad-Gundidj. After consultation with the local aboriginal community, this name represents both the indigenous name of the local area and an interpretation of the statement "belonging to this place". Our fourth and newest campus, Don Valley Campus is located at Don Valley in the Yarra Ranges.
