Parents Weekend is specifically set up for families
so Parents can understand the Alpine School experience. Your visit
is vital to ensure that the “Alpine School Experience”
is shared, and to collectively support students during this time.
The visiting weekend is for immediate family members
only. It is not considered appropriate that boy/girl friends or
large extended families visit the school on either day. The Alpine
School experience is about an intense learning experience for the
students. As such, parents and siblings, as the usual primary support
for students, are the only invited guests.
The visiting weekend is a vital component of the
Alpine School experience as it draws the family into the experience
of the student. It can and usually does cause a great deal of angst
with parents and students (in particular). Separation anxiety is
often revisited for both students and parents. We feel it is well
worth the effort, as it achieves a shared understanding of aspects
of the Alpine School experience for parents and immediate family
that needs to be communicated face-to-face. This is a vital insight
into your son’s/daughter’s experience which will assist
you with the reintegration process upon their return home. We ask
you give this weekend the highest priority in your family’s
planning!Dates for this weekend have been circulated. The format
of the weekend is that parents pick-up their son/daughter after
10am and before midday on the Saturday. It is suggested
families stay nearby, and accommodation
should be booked well in advance.
On Sunday, families are asked to return with their
son/daughter by 3.00pm and leave by 4.00pm. A light afternoon tea
is provided. If any families need to leave earlier and hence have
to drop off their son or daughter prior to these times, staff will
be in attendance at the Alpine School on Sunday from 1200 midday.
If any families are unable to attend the weekend,
please advise as soon as possible. Your son or daughter will be
looked after and special arrangements made to ensure their experience
is also valuable.
In the past, some families have shared lifts on
and off the mountain, and even accepted responsibility for a student
if his or her family is unable to attend.
We do, however, ask and strongly recommend,
for your son or daughters well being, that every effort is taken
to attend the visiting weekend. Please call us for advise on any
matter regarding this all-important part of the Alpine School experience.
